An Overview of the Asian Office of Research and Development

The Asian Office of Research and Development (AOARD) oversees the U.S. Air Force’s R&D interests throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Located in Tokyo, AOARD is a field office of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) which manages all basic research activities for the U.S. Air Force in support of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s mission to seek scientific breakthroughs and establish ties between top-level researchers. AOARD aims to discover and promote the development of world-class fundamental research and application development relevant to the Air Force needs and has three programs to facilitate scientific discovery and research exchange: Conference Support Program, Windows-on-Science Visits and the Research Grants and Contracts Program.
